At Cloket, we believe that the solutions to our modern environmental crisis are often hidden within the ancient wisdom of our Indigenous communities. What began as a frontline response to pollution has evolved into a mission to bridge the gap between traditional tribal craftsmanship and the global circular economy.

What do we do?

Cloket is more than a marketplace; it is a decentralized ecosystem designed to dignify marginalized artisans and reduce waste at its source. We operate through two interconnected models :

Upculture: A clean-tech circular marketplace that connects conscious buyers with high-quality upcycled products, building equitable market linkages for artisan-makers.

The Upcycling Project: A grassroots initiative that equips Indigenous artisans of Northeast India like the Bodo, Mising, and Garo communities, etc., with zero-waste production skills. We transform what the world considers "waste"- tailoring scraps, handloom offcuts, and discarded sarees-into functional lifestyle products like home décor, stationery, and utility items.

The Way Forward- Upculture

Upculture is the clean-tech and circular marketplace arm of Cloket. We turn textile waste into responsible, handmade products that honor both the planet and the people who make them.

It is designed to build equitable market linkages between conscious consumers and Indigenous artisan-makers.

In traditional systems, artisans in rural areas often face shrinking livelihood opportunities and a lack of access to urban markets. Upculture solves this by creating a direct bridge that brings their craftsmanship to a global stage.

We bridge the gap between traditional craftsmanship and modern demand through a decentralised model that empowers artisans to work directly from their villages. By providing design training and a tech-enabled marketplace, we transform ancestral skills into high-value, contemporary products. Through strategic B2B partnerships and direct-to-consumer digital storytelling, we secure consistent orders and global reach—ensuring that Indigenous heritage isn't just preserved, but thrives as a sustainable economic necessity.

As a unit of Cloket, Upculture carries forward the broader vision of circularity and responsible production, focusing specifically on artisan-led, textile-based upcycled products.

What fuels our mission?

Our project is fueled by the personal strength of the women in these villages.

An elder artisan - Dalimi Baideu means elder sister in Assamese) whose life of navigating hardship defines our mission. She famously reminded us: "If you have a strong mind and put your whole heart and soul into it, there is nothing you cannot do".

We focus on empowering women who have long been marginalized, turning their "forgotten knowledge" into a sophisticated economic necessity.

We believe that true empowerment comes from ownership, not just employment.

Instead of moving women to factories, we bring the work to them. By establishing micro-units in their own villages, we allow them to remain stewards of their culture and land while gaining financial independence.

While modern life pulls many young people away from traditional crafts, our model makes these skills relevant and profitable again, ensuring that the stories of the indigenous tribes of Northeast India like the Bodo, Rabha, Ahom, Wancho, etc., continue to be told.

When you hold an Upculture product, you are holding the "heart and soul" of women like Dalimi Baideu and the living history of Northeast India.

Mission

Our mission is to build a scalable, artisan-driven circular textile ecosystem by engaging artisans, self-help groups, small businesses, and individuals in upcycling-led production. We focus on:

  • Repurposing post-consumption and post-production textile waste into high-value products
  • Enabling handmade, artisan-led production that ensures fair livelihoods and skill preservation
  • Upskilling and onboarding communities, regardless of prior technical expertise, to participate in circular practices
  • Offering responsible, durable alternatives to fast fashion through conscious design and material reuse

By rethinking production from the source and extending the life of existing materials, Upculture works to reduce waste, prevent overproduction, and create inclusive economic opportunities through circular fashion.
